Continuous Assessment Task 3 (CAT) CAT 3. State responsibility, the settlement of disputes by peaceful means and the use of force. Presentation ● Objectives and Competencies ● Formal issues ● Marking criteria Presentation CAT 3 consists of a practical case. You will be asked to act as a delegation to the UN Security Council and prepare a briefing on the situation in Western Sahara. Learning objectives: Identify the elements that entail the perpetration of an internationally wrongful act. Identify the consequences that emerge when an internationally wrongful act has been committed.
Settlement of disputes
Distinguish different types of State responsibility at an international level. Understand what diplomatic protection entails and the requirements needed to exercise such protection. Discover different ways of settling international disputes. Identify how coercive measures can be legally exercised in accordance with international law. Practical case: Outbreak of violence in Western Sahara and the response of the international community The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), commonly known as Western Sahara, is a territory that emerged from the decolonization of Spain in the 1970s.
Settlement of disputes
After Spain withdrew from this territory in November 1975, Morocco practically annexed the two-thirds of Western Sahara (formerly known as ‘Río de Oro’ or ‘Spanish Sahara’) in 1976 and claimed the rest of the territory in 1979, following the withdrawal of Mauritania. Several episodes have happened ever since, among which we can highlight: A guerrilla war between Morocco and the Polisario Front (the de facto government of the SADR, which disputes the sovereignty of Rabat over the territory) that ended in a ceasefire negotiated by the UN in 1991, and which has been broken by both sides ever since.
Settlement of disputes
The possibility of a referendum organized by the United Nations on the definitive status of the territory, which has been repeatedly postponed, based on the deployment of an international mission to hold the referendum, since 1991 (MINURSO) ● The negotiation of the fishing agreement between the EU and Morocco, in which fishing in Sahrawi territory is included (and which has had the special mediation of Spain) ● The US and Spanish diplomatic recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara.
Settlement of disputes
The stay of the leader of the Polisario Front (Brahim Ghali) in Spain, due to health reasons The UN has sponsored on several occasions talks between representatives of the Moroccan Government and the Polisario Front to negotiate the status of Western Sahara, frequently stalled and resumed. Rabat has presented a proposal for autonomy for the territory, which would allow for local Sahrawi administration while maintaining Moroccan sovereignty. For its part, the Polisario Front, with the support of Algeria, demands a popular referendum that includes the option of independence.
Settlement of disputes
The United Nations once again proposes to call this referendum as the administrator of this territory (Western Sahara is considered a colony at the international level. Check in that regard the List of Non-Self-Governing Territories | The United Nations and Decolonization). Over the last year, exactions and the intensification in the armed conflict between the Polisario Front and Morocco have been reported. A few days ago, some actors present in the territory affirmed that a massive slaughter of innocents has been taking place in the Moroccan occupied part of the territory as well as in the Sahrawi part. https://youtu.be/vPZVPZliZ-0

In the United States, few criminals are more vilified than those who do mean things to animals. In summer 2015, citizens across the nation responded with anger when they learned that Minnesota dentist Dr. Walter Palmer had shot a defenseless lion on safari in Africa. Palmer reportedly paid $50,000 to secure the licenses to track down and kill a lion. But the lion that Palmer’s guides lured out of a national park turned out to be a well-known, 13-year-old lion known as “Cecil.” Immediately, public opinion turned against Dr. Palmer, who went into hiding and hired public relations firm J. Austin & Associates.

The firm issued an apology on his behalf and promptly quit. Palmer then attempted to retain Minneapolis agency Spong PR without success. Palmer, it seemed, was that rare commodity who couldn’t seem to find a public relations firm that would take his money. As you will read this week, the Public Relations Society of America lists the following as its core values: Advocacy, Honesty, Expertise, Independence, Loyalty, and Fairness. The society stresses that practitioners should (1) Preserve the integrity of the process of communication; (2) Be honest and accurate in all communications; (3) Act promptly to correct erroneous communications for which the practitioner is responsible;

(4) Preserve the free flow of unprejudiced information when giving or receiving gifts by ensuring that gifts are nominal, legal, and infrequent. We now must explore the Cecil dilemma through the lens of public relations ethics. https://youtu.be/GNPpopMJH3A https://youtu.be/gMOcrXk-K3I Write a paper that Describes how the Cecil dilemma stands against at least three core values of the PRSA (and why); Provides hypothetical advice to Dr. Palmer on how to handle this situation from a public relations perspective; Shares whether they would represent Dr. Palmer if they led a public relations firm (along with an explanation of why or why not). You can read more on the PRSA’s core values on this in uploaded file. https://youtu.be/8uRh4XYa__M

India and Pakistan modern history 2022 Best
This paper focuses centrally on providing commentary on developments in India and Pakistan modern history, largely in regards to rising religious intolerance in both countries.
India and Pakistan modern history
Who & What has caused the lowest points of religious intolerance within both countries? This is paper is an opinion piece, but it must maintain a largely academic tone. The paper must address multiple questions in a cohesive manner. I would like for this paper to incorporate my own thesis and argue on behalf of that with the sources provided. Any additional academic sources (i.e. journals, books, scholarly articles) can be added to further argue this point. Please reference writing samples to further understand the position of the paper I’d like you to write.
India and Pakistan modern history
This paper focuses centrally on providing commentary on developments in India and Pakistan’s modern history, largely in regards to rising religious intolerance in both countries. My overall argument is the following: “The rising religious intolerance within India & Pakistan was an inevitable process due to the religious divides set forth during the British Raj colonial occupation. The British Raj’s treatment of the Indian’s subcontinents Muslims & Hindus encroached on both group’s religious practices with varying degrees of preference. This ended up causing both religious groups to feel the British Raj had a preference for other group over themselves. https://youtu.be/JL-kD589h_M
India and Pakistan modern history
HOWEVER, this initial religious divide between Hindus & Muslims on its own **could not** catalyze into the religious intolerance we see in India & Pakistan today. There were significant movements in India & Pakistan’s independence that formed the basis of their governments when Partition happened. It was the founding ideology which reflected each countries’ first prime ministers — the idea that the government protects each countries’ religious majority (Muslims in Pakistan, Hindus in India) by maintaining their lifestyles…while protecting minorities through its secular government.
India and Pakistan modern history
Religious fundamentalists, as a minority, would manage to sway the founding secularism of both countries towards religious intolerance. Religious fundamentalists would garner a base in sensitive hotspots in each country — the VHP, and ESPECIALLY the BJS (now BJP) in India would rally up religious anger in people through culturally sensitive areas such as Somnath, Ayodhya, and Kashmir & Jammu. One of the central ideologues, V.D. Savarkhar, would have his ideas spread to religious nationalists who would ultimately kill Mahatma Gandhi – the man who managed to mobilize unity between Muslims & Hindus through massive protests.
India and Pakistan modern history
Religious fundamentalists in Pakistan would almost immediately take over the government after Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s death and this would make the country’s beginnings start with botched elections with following religious conservative (and intolerant) governments [ex. Yahya Khan’s block of the assembly’s covening after East Pakistan (Bengali) Mujib party formed the assembly’s majority Religious fundamentalists managed to act on exaggerating the injustice experienced by masses & minorities in both countries — thus they created the fear that allowed their success — and results in the religious tolerance present in both countries today.”
